Farewell Corfu

Every time we visit Corfu, we have to go up to Afionas. It is, I am sure, one of the most beautiful villages in the world, with its white walls, colourful flowers and breath-taking views.

Ambling gently through the streets, with the hot sun pounding on our backs, we snapped away on our cameras as we went.

Isn’t it a gorgeous place?

We then decided to stop off for lunch in a taverna overlooking the islands. Despite being a rather waspy affair, we enjoyed a feast of Corfiot dishes – our favourite tzatziki, with saganaki, feta wrapped in filo pastry, fried peppers drizzled with balsamic vinegar, and a fresh tuna salad. After scooping up the very last crumb, we mustered up the energy to walk to one of the most picturesque spots.

^ You can see why this particular island is named ‘Crocodile Island’…!

We took a leisurely drive back to our apartment, and after a quick siesta, spruced ourselves up for dinner.

As our time in Corfu began to creep to an end, we continued to pay regular visits to Akrotiri – this is one of my parents’ favourite places on the island, and it’s not hard to see why.

Perched on the brow of the hill, the bar has views of the bay of Agios Stefanos on one side, and Agios Georgios on the other.

With comfortable armchairs sited on the cool veranda, and a menu featuring delicious cocktails, salads {you MUST try the Akrotiri salad – the dressing is to die for}, pizzas, coffees and baguettes, it’s the perfect place to visit for a light lunch, or to watch the sun set at the end of the day.

Always served with a smile from Nikos, we have whiled away many hours sat in this relaxed, welcoming place. Easily accessible by foot, car or quad bike from Agios Stefanos, I would definitely recommend adding this to your must-do list if you’re visiting the area. {And let me know if you do!}

You can then take a short walk along the ridge – just don’t fall into those blue waters!

Although our Greek stay was over, we knew it would not be too long before we were back. As I said previously, it really is our home from home, with its delicious food, amazing landscapes, beautiful beaches, and most importantly, wonderful people.
